Ucluth Eco Resort Acquires Property

The Ucluth Development Corporation is pleased to announce the acquisition of Lot 468 from the Province of BC this week. UDC continues to work with a team of professionals planning a destination resort for the approximately 600 Ha of ocean front property recently acquired through the conclusion of the Maa-nulth Treaty between Canada, B.C. and the Yuu-thlu-ilth-aht (Ucluelet) First Nation.

Tyson Touchie President of the Ucluth Development Corporation announced the recent acquisition,

” This strategic piece of property gives the Corporation access to Willowbrae Road and the Trail Head to Pacific Rim Park. It will enable us to secure financing thereby catalyzing the development planning for the rest of our destination resort. We are really excited to start to see Treaty benefits flowing into the region creating a much needed economic stimulus for the entire community”

Chief Councillor Vi Mundy of the Yuu-thlu-ilth-aht First Nation reflected on the history of the transaction, “When the former Aboriginal Affairs Minister Mike Dejong announced the early land transfers last April we were pleased to select a piece of property that was pivotal to our community’s economic development future. We want to start creating jobs and a future tax base as soon as possible.”

The Ucluelet Nation’s Treaty effective date is slated for April 2011 when the remaining properties and benefits will be transferred to the Yuu-thlu-ilth-aht government.
